2018 Concert 1

Mario Dobernig - Conductor

 

Mario is the Artistic Director and Conductor for Victoria Chorale and the Art of Sound Orchestra.

 

Engagements for the 2017/2018 season include performances with the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra in Doha for the Qatar Festival, Hobart’s MONA FOMA, Brahms’s Requiem and Alto Rhapsody, Schubert’s Masses No. 5 and 6, Mozart Vespers K. 339, Mozart’ Piano Concerto K. 449, Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 and Eroica, Saint-Saens Christmas Oratorio, Haydn’s Nelson Mass, festival appearances with Electronic Dance Music Producers,  cultural exchange programs between Austria and Australia and returns to Europe in 2017 and 2018.

The Mass in C Major has all the qualities that make Beethoven’s music so popular with audiences and musicians alike.  An inspired work, it is magnificently crafted and infused with bold harmonies, rhythms and romantic, deeply moving, melodies.  Beethoven’s glorious Pastoral Symphony is one of his most loved works.

 

A wonderful opportunity to hear inspiring works by a master composer.

Desiree Frahn - Soprano

 

Desiree Frahn is a graduate of the Elder Conservatorium, and alumni of the 2014/16 State Opera of South Australia James and Diana Ramsey Foundation Opera Program.   With SOSA she has performed several main stage roles including Leïla, Rose Pickles, Pamina, and Rosalinde and sung as a soloist in their regional tours, concerts and broadcasts. She been a soprano soloist in both new and established works with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Elder Conservatorium Orchestra and the Adelaide University Choral Association.

Sally-Anne Russell - Mezzo

 

Mezzo Sally-Anne Russell is one of Australia’s finest mezzo sopranos. Sally-Anne has over 70 operatic roles in her repertoire, has sung in fifteen countries, performs with all the major symphony orchestras and opera companies and has made over 40 recordings on ABC Classics, Chandos, Move and Decca labels.

Nick Seidenman - Tenor

 

Tenor Nick Seidenman is a versatile artist who performs both in opera (Amato Opera NY, Palm Beach, Melbourne Opera) and in concerts and recitals (Mannes Orchestra, NY; Richmond Choral Society, Virginia).

Christopher Richardson - Baritone

 

Sydney-based Tasmanian-born singer Christopher Richardson is one of Australia’s finest resident lyric bass-baritones. With a background as an accomplished pianist and cellist, he has studied classical voice with Marilyn Smith, Jane Edwards, Glenn Winslade and Sharolyn Kimmorley. A graduate of both the University of Tasmania and the Lisa Gasteen National Opera School, he has been recipient of the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Aria Award, the ‘Frances MacEachron Award’ as a finalist in The Oratorio Society of New York’s Solo Competition at Carnegie Hall, and featured as a solo artist on Decca’s recent international release of ‘Real and Right and True’ - Songs by Calvin Bowman.
