Tickets on sale for August concert

Following a highly successful European concert tour, Victoria Chorale returns home to join forces with the Ballarat Wind Orchestra for an afternoon of inspiring music in Coming Home.

This special collaborative concert celebrates the power of music to connect us with places, memories, and one another. Audiences will experience a rich and diverse program featuring music performed by the Victoria Chorale on its recent international tour, alongside exciting new works and celebrated repertoire for choir and wind orchestra.

We’re proud to be featuring the Australian premiere of The Two Trees, the new composition by our rehearsal accompanist and award-winning concert pianist, William Schmidt.  Commissioned by Victoria Chorale, Will has created a beautifully haunting choral work drawing on William Butler Yeats’ famous poem. 

Stabat Mater by Giuseppe Verdi, the second and most intense part of his four sacred pieces will thrill you with its powerful operatic-style choral and solo performances, while Gustav Holst’s Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence will showcase our wind and brass ensemble as they blend with the choir to create complex harmonies.

The rhythmic Tunggare, by Stephen Leek, is a culturally rich a capella vocal homage that reflects the deep Indigenous and contemporary musical heritage of Australia. You’ll probably find yourself singing along (hopefully!) with the nostalgic I Still Call Australia Home by Peter Allen and I Am Australian by Bruce Woodley and Dobe Newton.

The concert also welcomes one of Australia's most distinguished vocal artists, Sally-Anne Russell, whose extraordinary career has taken her to concert halls and opera stages in more than twenty-five countries. Under the direction of Dr Mario Dobernig, the Ballarat Wind Orchestra and Victoria Chorale continue a long-standing artistic partnership that has delighted audiences across Victoria and beyond.

Founded in 2009, the Ballarat Wind Orchestra has established itself as western Victoria's premier wind ensemble. Through regular performances, international tours, and a commitment to promoting Australian music, the orchestra has built a reputation for musical excellence and innovation.

Concert dates are 5pm Saturday 29 August at Collingwood Town Hall and 4pm Sunday 30 August in Ballarat at the Wendouree Centre for Performing Arts.
